Well… today I’ve gotten a head-start on my flyers for RootsTech! This is a rough draft, but you should get the idea. Please ignore the boring background. It won’t be that way when I’m ready to print my flyers!
Once again, my flyers will be handed-out at the Salt Lake Community College vendor in the Expo Hall at RootsTech!
Taking GEN1110 (Genealogy Writing and Publishing) was a big help creating my flyer. Of course, that class is no longer available at SLCC, but has been replaced with GEN1111 (Genealogy and Family History Writing) and GEN1125 (Genealogy Publishing).
Here is a summary of what I learned during GEN1110…

Here is a summary of what I learned during GEN1110…
… Understand your objectives.
…Understand your goals and custom fit your products around them.
…Understand your audience and custom fit your products around them as well.
… Be organized (plan your product out step-by-step).
… Be professional.
…Be original (keeping it fun and interesting, yet appropriate for your situation).
…Last, but not least, have others review your product before publication!
Now I’m excited for the next semester! I’ll be taking GEN1014 (Making Money with Genealogy). This is SLCC’s genealogy business class. If I heard correctly, I will learn what it takes to (a.) work for myself, (b.) work for other companies, and (c.) advertise my services.
