Well, things are coming along great with my genealogy class! Once again, I’m taking GEN1014, Making Money with Genealogy. I love that the Genealogy Certificate program at Salt Lake Community College lets me work ahead. It’s week nine and I’ve nearly completed this whole semester! (Sorry the links aren't blue like usual- Weebly is having technical issues with their font color options).
Anyway, I thought I would give everyone a breakdown of what GEN1014 has to offer! The whole goal of this class is to create our business plans. Janet Hovorka teaches her students how to do this step-by-step. This encompasses creating an organized binder with a table of contents.
(NOTE: Student’s do not have to put their business plans into action. That is optional. If we just want to understand the process we can create factious businesses just for this course.)
In the end, our business binders should have the following chapters…

In the end, our business binders should have the following chapters…
- Executive summary
- Missionary Statement
- Elevator Speech
- Company Description
- Products and Services Description
- Industry Description
- Financial Information
- SWOT Analysis
- Marketing Plan
- Branding Details
- Virtual Real Estate Information
- Business To-Do List
- Personal Development 5 Year Plan
We learn other helpful things along the way that aren’t mandatory for our binders too. It has been an eye opening experience!
My goal is to become accredited before starting my business. Right now it’s still a dream, but at least I’m one step closer with each class! Now I know what to do when I want to start a business of my own!
